A cultural tour about the sculptures of Vergara
On February 6th 2015, we celebrated the 300th anniversary of the valencian sculptor Ignacio Vergara Gimeno, author of some significant works such as the gate of the Palace of the Marquee of Dos Aguas and the sculptural group “Ángeles venerando a María” of the baroc gate of the Cathedral.
Vergara is considered to be one of the most worshipped sculptors in the valencian and spanish baroc, therefore, and because of the many examples we have in our city, Turiart has organized this cultural tour. In getting to know his most popular works, but also his less famous realisations, we enter into the noble sculptural arts, and we delve into the time and century of the author and into his motives to work with a chisel and gouge:
- Puerta Barroca de la Catedral
- Imagen de Santa María (Interior)
- San Juan del Hospital- Escultura de San José, el Niño y San Juan Bautista
- San Martín y San Antonio Abad
- Palacio del Marqués de Dos Aguas. (Gate)
An extraordinary tour, to see how the sculptural works almost come to life. Don´t miss it!
