Guided tour to the old town of Peniscola a city of Papa Luna (Antipope Benedict XIII) and one of the most beautiful towns in the coast of Azahar.
We will start our visit from the fortified city of Peniscola and its castle.
The bastions and the pinnacles almost touching the sea… the Castle of Papa Luna is famous for its beauty, its crag on the sea and mostly, because it was one of three papal residences that existed in history (with the Vatican and Avignon). This town is also known for its important role played in the Western Schism.
While visiting the castle we will discover the different phases of its construction and the best stories and anecdotes that are connected with this magical place.
Afterwards the guide will take you through the narrow and characteristic alleys of the town. You can also visit the Casa del Ayer, a house transformed into a museum that will permit you to dicover traditions and customs of Peniscola. Another worthseeing place is the Museum of the Sea, which shows the local customs and the traditional life, and is located in the Baluarte del Príncipe, the most Eastern part of the fortification that was a quarter of artillery in the eighteenth century.
We will also visit the fishing area of the Port in order to explore the ordinary life of this town compared with its traditional history and culture.
