A new opportunity to Know Valencia as a Focal point of Silk Road in the world.

In 2015 UNWTO included Spain as the 32nd member state of the Silk Road Programme.Valencia has been considered as the Silk City 2016 focal point from UNESCO Mediterranean Programme.

Turiart will lead a route where we will discover together the architectural heritage, the delicate fabrics and the charming history of the silk industry in Valencia which is mainly concentrated in the neighborhood of Velluters (the velvet artisans).

With this tour Turiart wants to share with you the experience of learning why Valencia was the leading city in Spain in the silk industry. You will learn all about the fascinating process of silk-making and trading.

We will start our route visiting The College of the Higher Art of Silk Making, emblematic building representing one of the main drivers of the Valencian economy from its founding in the 15th century. Nowadays it is an extraordinary museum where you will find an exclusive collection of artworks and bibliographic information covering the wide history of silk in Valencia

Our next stop will be the Palace of Tamarit the old Silk Factory, a four floor building (18th Century) where we will enjoy a wide exhibition related to the Silk Road.

And then we will visit La Lonja de la Seda, a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture (15th and 16th centuries), that was made a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. It has always been a centre for commerce and illustrates the power and wealth of a major Mediterranean mercantile city.

Finally we will enjoy the traditional and historic shops related to silk fabrics and accessories as they are used nowadays, like traditional clothing or jewelry.

We will visit:

  1. Guided visit to COLEGIO DE ARTE MAYOR DE LA SEDA
  2. Guided visit to PALACIO DE LOS TAMARIT:
  3. Guided visit to LA LONJA DE LA SEDA
