The palaces of Valencia are the best example of the magnificent architectural legacy that the city's nobility and bourgeois past left us. The wealth and grandeur of the capital of Turia in various periods allowed the elites to reflect the opulence of the different artistic styles in their homes and civil monuments.

Many of these palaces, most located in the Historic Center, have survived to this day and now we can enjoy them thanks to tourist visits. This route of “Valencian Palaces” is a guided walk to discover the secrets of some of the most beautiful and best preserved.

Our guide will first take us through the halls of the Palacio del Marqués de Dos Aguas, among which the Ballroom stands out, with its pronounced Rococo style. It is one of the most famous buildings in the city, thanks above all to its impressive façade and the alabaster doorway with two Atlanteans representing two rivers. It currently houses the “González Martí” National Museum of Ceramics and Luxury Arts.

A short walk will take us to the Palace of the Counts of Cervelló, residence of kings and illustrious people. This building, less known and visited than the previous one, witnessed key events in Spanish history during the 19th century. Inside, the Borbónica Gallery stands out, the rooms of the Municipal Historical Archive and, in general, the palatial atmosphere that permeates all its rooms.

Facades, marbles, monumental stairs, chandeliers, rockeries and doors with luxurious finishes are today the best inheritance of the city's palatial tradition. “Valencian Palaces” is a guided tour to transport you through that noble past of Valencia and to see some of its most dazzling monuments.

If one of the two palaces cannot be visited, it will be replaced by the Palace of the Marqués de Campo (or the Counts of Berbedel), one of the great unknowns of Valencia. Its interior still preserves the neoclassical decoration and a large Louis XV style staircase. It currently houses the collection of the City Museum.

The regular guided tour on Sundays is limited to these palaces. However, the palace art of Valencia can also be enjoyed in other worlds, points that are well worth a visit.

The Valencian Golden Age left us some of the best palaces, in Gothic style, such as the Palau de la Generalitat or the Palau de Benicarló (or de los Borja), which today house the headquarters of the executive and legislative power of the Valencian Community. Later, the Renaissance and Baroque gave us other palaces, such as San Pio V. The list is enormous and continues with excellent examples of palatial architecture, which continued to develop in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Do not hesitate to contact Turiart if you want to continue delving into the Valencian Palaces with a private visit.
