Valencia, January 2022.- TouriSME is a European project that has been created to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism sector to become more sustainable. This project began with a formative meeting at the International Tourism Fair (Feria Internacional de Turismo FITUR 2022), which was held on 21st January in Madrid and, where the 16 Spanish SMEs that collaborate had the opportunity to meet each other.
The project is composed of small and medium-sized tourism companies from the following countries: France, Spain, Cyprus and Italy and its main objective is to know and integrate sustainable solutions with the environment in the tourism sector
In order to face these challenges, the TouriSME project, co-financed by the European Union’s COSME programme, aims to promote the capacities and develop the skills of integrated European SMEs to explore and adopt solutions through training on different topics such as circular solutions, energy efficiency, resource consumption, waste management, mobility, social innovation, eco-design or green procurement. The aim is to make businesses more aware of the impact of climate change on the tourism sector. Since the loss of biodiversity and the shortage of
resources have shown the great dependence on the environmental quality that places have to attract tourism. The training courses provided by the programme are framed in practices and policies of sustainable tourism.
The aim of this project is to assess the environmental impact and ensure that companies have the skills and knowledge to assure a more sustainable future in the tourism sector. This project is carried out through a transnational and intersectoral collaboration reinforced between tourism SMEs and operators from different sectors, which will last for two years.
