Secrets of Cabanyal (Tour in English)

This tour wants to take you through the streets of Cabanyal, an ancient fisher town. It's the inspirational scenery for Sorolla or Blasco Ibáñez, where we contemplate the popular modernism in Valencia. Protected Historical Set, declared to be a Good of Cultural Interest (Bien de Interés Cultural -BIC-) in 1993.

El Cabanyal is a unique neighborhood, very colorful and famous for its popular and maritime character and for the life of its streets. Turiart's "Secrets of Cabanyal" route invites us to get to know this part of the city, far from the more traditional tourist resources of Valencia, from the perspective of sustainability.

Led by an official guide, an expert in the memories of the neighbourhood, we will walk through the history, urban geography and emblematic settings of Cabanyal. Maritime life, its urban fabric, its light and cultural diversity have made it a totally unique neighborhood. Not surprisingly, its streets were declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1993.

The itinerary transports us to the past of the neighborhood to understand its present, its neighborhood struggles and its projection towards the future. The presence of illustrious Valencians such as Joaquín Sorolla or Josep Renau, who found inspiration for their works in the corners of Cabanyal, is also remembered. We will cross streets that still preserve the popular architecture and houses that tell stories of humble and simple people through their ceramic panels.

This route is part of "Valencia neighborhood by neighborhood", a program in collaboration with the Alter Eco project, which seeks to bring us closer to the neighborhoods of Valencia from a sustainable perspective, interpreting them but respecting their idiosyncrasies and the way of life of their inhabitants.

We will finish near the sea, with the gentle sea breeze, at the perfect time to enjoy the neighborhood, having a drink on one of its terraces or enjoying one of its bars and restaurants.
