Silk did more than enrich Valencia: it transformed the city forever. And now, you are about to discover the place where it all happened.
The Silk Exchange (La Lonja de la Seda), one of the finest masterpieces of European civil Gothic architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was once the setting where merchants and bankers sealed deals that connected Valencia with the entire Mediterranean. Within its walls, fortunes were made, power was negotiated, and stories unfolded that shaped the city’s Golden Age.
But La Lonja is much more than a spectacular building. Its twisting columns, carved figures, hidden symbols, and secret messages reveal fascinating stories that most visitors never notice.
During this 75 minute guided experience, you will explore both the interior and exterior of this remarkable monument alongside an expert guide. You will discover how this true temple of commerce operated, uncover the meaning behind its most intriguing details, and understand why it continues to captivate visitors more than 500 years after its construction.
To complete the experience, you will enjoy a traditional Valencian tasting at MonOrxata, next to the Central Market: a refreshing glass of horchata accompanied by a delicious handmade farton.
Horchata is Valencia’s most iconic drink, made from tiger nuts, water, and sugar. This refreshing drink is one of the most authentic flavors of Valencian culture. Fartons are soft, fluffy pastries specially created to be dipped into horchata, making them the perfect companion to this beloved local tradition.
History, secrets, heritage, and local gastronomy come together in an experience that will make you see La Lonja through completely different eyes.
By the end of this tour, you will realize that some monuments are simply visited… while others are truly experienced and understood.
